Recently, Zhengzhou Shang City has become a member of the International Ancient Walls and Castles Alliance.

Ancient city walls and castles scattered across the globe stand as testaments to history, embodying the development of human civilization. The International Ancient Walls and Castles Alliance is a subsidiary of the United Cities and Local Governments Asia Pacific (UCLG ASPAC) Tourism Committee, jointly initiated by the Xi'an City Wall in China, the Ancient City Walls City Alliance of the Veneto Region in Italy, and the York City Walls Management Authority in the United Kingdom. It is aimed at enhancing the preservation and utilization of ancient city walls and castles globally, promoting tourism and management, and fostering cultural exchange and cooperation among wall and castle management organizations, individuals, and the international community.

The Alliance currently comprises 18 members including China, Italy, the United Kingdom, and Malaysia, with its membership continually expanding.

The Zhengzhou Shang City comprises the ruins of the early to mid-Shang Dynasty capital, known as "Bo," where King Tang of Shang first settled. Located in the Guancheng District of Zhengzhou, it spans an area of 25 square kilometers. This site was where the Shang Dynasty established its capital and the first of the royal dynastic systems, demonstrating a mature Bronze Age society and a crucial link in tracing the origins of Chinese characters, providing significant evidence for Zhengzhou's inclusion among China's "Eight Great Ancient Capitals."

Zhengzhou Shang City is divided into a palace area, an inner city, and an outer city, with the inner city walls being the most well-preserved. The layout of the inner city wall is an irregular rectangle: the north wall stretches approximately 1,690 meters, the west wall around 1,870 meters, and both the south and east walls measure about 1,700 meters each, totaling a perimeter of 6,960 meters. The base of the wall is about 20 meters wide, tapering to over 5 meters at the top, with a restored height of around 10 meters.

郑州商城分为宫殿区、内城和外郭城，其中尤以内城墙保存最为完整。内城墙平面呈不规则长方形，北墙长约1690米，西墙长约1870米，南墙和东墙长度均为1700米，周长6960米。城墙底宽20米左右，顶宽5米多，其高度复原后约10米。

Zhengzhou Shang City was designated as one of the first key national cultural relics protection units in 1961 based on the significant archaeological discoveries. In 2000, it was used by the Xia-Shang-Zhou Chronology Project as a basis for the transition between the Xia and Shang dynasties. In 2001, it was listed among the "Top 100 Archaeological Discoveries of the 20th Century in China," and in 2021, it was again selected as one of the "Top 100 Archaeological Discoveries in a Century" in China.

基于郑州商城重要的考古发现，1961年郑州商城成为第一批全国重点文物保护单位，2000年夏商周断代工程将其作为夏商交替依据，2001年被列为“20世纪中国100项考古大发现”，2021年又入选全国“百年百大考古发现”。

Today, approximately 4.5 kilometers of the inner city wall have undergone comprehensive protection and environmental rehabilitation within the Zhengzhou Shang City, resulting in the creation of a circular green park covering an area of about 42 hectares. This development has rejuvenated the millennia-old capital of Zhengzhou, highlighting its unique cultural charm.
