According to statistics released by the Zhengzhou Municipal Bureau of Commerce, the city's total retail sales of consumer goods in 2023 reached 562.3 billion yuan, a record high and accounting for 21.5% of the provincial total, placing it second among the central cities. This indicator grew at the third-highest rate among the country's central cities and the forefront among the top 35 large and medium-sized cities. Zhengzhou was successfully shortlisted by Forbes China in 2023 as one of the “Top 20 Cities for Consumer Vitality".

Taking a broad view of the city, the business districts in Zhengzhou are improving their quality and rapidly expanding their capacity. As of the end of 2023, there were 10 large-scale business districts and 215 large supermarkets with more than 2,000 square meters of active space in Zhengzhou. The annual sales at David Plaza reached nearly 10 billion yuan, becoming one of the top districts in the country.

During the Spring Festival holiday of the Year of Dragon, the total customer flows for 21 characteristic commercial streets reached 3.84 million, a year-on-year increase of 70%, along with a total turnover worth 230 million yuan, a year-on-year increase of 32%. About 11.0468 million people stopped in Erqi Business District, the Central Business District (CBD), the High-speed Railway Station Business District, Huayuan Road Business District, Zhongyuan Business District among other key areas, and 32.19% of them stayed for more than 1 hour. The customer flows of large-scale commercial complexes monitored by Zhengzhou accumulated to nearly 4 million, a year-on-year increase of 13.47%, resulting in commercial activity worth 605 million yuan, a year-on-year increase of 14.58%.
龙年春节假期，21条特色商业街总客流量384万人次，同比增长70%；总营业额达2.3亿元，同比增长32%。停驻二七商圈、CBD商圈、高铁站商圈、花园路商圈、中原商圈等重点商圈约1104.68万人次，驻留时间超1小时者占32.19%。郑州市重点监测的大型商业综合体客流量累计近400万人次，同比增长13.47%；营业额累计6.05亿元，同比增长14.58%。
