"Sixteen years ago, I settled down in Zhongmu, Zhengzhou and got married," says Bernd, a German who has had a special experience in Zhengzhou. "Now, I lived with my lovely wife and two sons and run a pizza store. I have a great affection for this city."

“16年前，我来到郑州中牟安家，娶妻生子，现在我有了可爱的老婆与两个儿子，我在这里开店做披萨，已爱上了这座城市。”德国人贝恩德与郑州有着一份奇妙的情缘。

This is a special couple. Bernd's wife, Yang Xinying, is 43 years old, a native of Ye County, Pingdingshan. In 2007, 27-year-old Yang Xinying worked as a cashier in a supermarket in Changzhi County, Shanxi, while 58-year-old Bernd was an engineer with a foreign-funded enterprise there. Bernd had been engaged in machinery manufacturing since he was 26, when he graduated from the University of Technology in Magdeburg, Germany. Due to changing work locations, he was still unmarried.

这是一对特殊的夫妇。贝恩德的妻子杨新英今年43岁，是平顶山叶县人。2007年，27岁的杨新英在山西长治县一超市当收银员。同在长治，58岁的贝恩德是一家外资企业的工程师。贝恩德26岁从德国马格德堡理工科大学毕业后，从事机械制造工作，由于工作地点不稳定，一直未婚。

The factory Bernd worked for is a short distance from the supermarket where Yang Xinying worked and Bernd needed to go every day, so they gradually became more and more familiar with each other. Later, Bernd would often invite Yang to dinner and tried to be courteous, such as opening the door for Yang when getting in a car and placing her chair for her when having a meal. According to Yang, Bernd would buy her flowers every day and buy her clothes that she liked when they went shopping.

贝恩德所在工厂与杨新英所在超市相距不远，每天超市是贝恩德的必去之处。日久天长，两人已熟识。贝恩德经常邀请杨新英一起吃饭，他为杨新英开车门，帮她拉椅子，体贴入微。杨新英说，每天她都会收到贝恩德买给她的鲜花，与贝恩德逛街时，遇到好看的衣服，她只要多看一眼，贝恩德第二天就把衣服买了回去。

They fell in love with each other and decided to get married. Their parents objected due to the age difference, but regardless of the disagreement, they nonetheless got married.

两人日久生情，开始谈婚论嫁，但由于年龄悬殊，双方家人皆反对，可两人义无反顾，毅然走到了一起。

In August 2008, Bernd resigned from his position as an engineer, and Yang left the supermarket. They moved to Zhongmu where they got married. "My sister and relatives also settled in Zhongmu, Zhengzhou, and I like this region very much," said Yang. According to her, after they had their first child, Bernd started to find jobs, but couldn't find one due to language barriers and his older age. Yang had to go to work in a cold storage, working more than 10 hours a day. In 2010, their second child was born. Yang started extra jobs - doing back rubs and working as a salesperson in the mall, while Bernd stayed at home to take care of the children and do the housework.

2008年8月，贝恩德辞去了工程师的职位，杨新英也离开了超市，来到郑州中牟结了婚。“我姐和其他亲戚在郑州中牟安家，我也很喜欢这里。”杨新英说，随着儿子杨德华出生，贝恩德四处找工作，但由于语言障碍与年龄偏大，始终没有找到合适的工作。为了家庭，杨新英去冷库打工，一天要干10个多小时。2010年，他们的二儿子杨乐乐出生，杨新英又去浴池搓背、商场卖衣服，贝恩德则在家照顾孩子，操持家务。

They two also had troubles with communication and tended to talk with gestures, because Bernd only spoke a little Chinese. Therefore, Bernd, who spoke both German and English, began to teach Yang English. Over time, Yang could communicate in English to some extent. When their first child Yang Dehua was 5 years old, Bernd began to teach him both German and English. That means that Yang Xinying talks to their child in Chinese and communicates with Bernd in English, while their son communicates with Bernd in English or German. When the couple encounter a language barrier, their son acts as their translator. Yang Xinying says that they are in a "trilingual family" and talk in three languages.

由于语言不同，夫妇两人的交流也存在着一些困难。贝恩德仅会几句简单的汉语，两人经常用手势沟通。为此，说德语和英语两国语言的贝恩德开始教杨新英学一些英语，时间长了，杨新英也会说一些。大儿子杨德华5岁的时候，贝恩德开始教儿子德语和英语，现在杨新英与孩子们交流多用汉语，与丈夫贝恩德交流用英语，而儿子与父亲贝恩德交流用英语或德语。很多时候，她与丈夫交流无法沟通时，儿子就充当他们的翻译。杨新英说，他们是“一家三语”，平常说话都是“三掺儿”。

They own two houses in total in Zhongmu, Zhengzhou and live a happy life. In daily life, Bernd maintains his Germanic pragmatism and rigor. Engaged in making pizza, he is committed to creating pizza with high-quality ingredients and a variety flavors. His store, named "Frank Pizza," has earned a good reputation amongst diners. "We employ 6 workers in the store and deal with more than 100 orders every day," says Yang Xinying. They plan to start another pizza store in the new urban area of Zhongmu.

生活在郑州中牟，两人前后买了两套房，在此安居乐业。生活中，贝恩德仍保持德国人的务实和严谨。贝恩德主做披萨，始终坚持使用优质的食材，用心开发多种口味，“弗兰克的披萨”在食客中有着很好的口碑。“店里现在有6人在忙碌，每天订单都有100多单。”杨新英说，夫妻俩计划在中牟再开一个披萨店。

When asked if he misses life in Germany, Bernd expresses that he feels good in Zhongmu. He said he loves the city of Zhengzhou, where he found a wife, two adorable children, and his own business.

当被人们问及是否想念德国的生活时，贝恩德说：“我在中牟挺好的，我有一个好妻子，有两个好儿子，我有一份靠手艺养家的工作，我爱这座城市。”
